**NEWS FLASH** Stryker placed 2nd out of 30 novice dogs at the Great Western Bank SDT in Tingley, IA on June 24th, 2007!! Steve got to bring home a nice new jacket!

Stryker also placed 3rd in novice at the LOL Crystal Lake trial in Illinois in August. It is on to Pro-novice for 2008 for this team!!

Stryker is our baby out of our Jag and our Ripley. He was born on November 1, 2002. Wasn't he adorable as a puppy. He already loves to work the sheepies. He will neutered as he has patent ductus arteriosus (P.D.A.). The PDA means that he was born with a hole in his heart. He is scheduled to have a heart procedure done at the University of Minnesota Veterinary Hospital on Wednesday, October 1, 2003. Stryker is participating in a study being done at the University of Minnesota where a device will be placed in his heart via an artery in his back leg. This device will close off the hole in his heart so that his heart can function normally. Once he has fully recovered from the heart procedure and has been neutered Steve will be working with him for herding competitions.

As stated above Stryker's heart procedure was a success!!! We are so relieved. The procedure was done with no problems and he even came home a day early. He has been running with the other dogs with no problems. I have started him on sheep again, now I just need to get Steve started too. He will be neutered in January after his three month check up at the University of Minnesota. We want to thank the Cardiology Department at the U of MN for giving us our Stryker back. Stryker is a happy boy and has given both of us a real deep appreciation of life and living.

This is Stryker during the winter of 2005 as a two year old. He has been progressing nicely in his herding training with Steve. He did have a set back this past spring of 2004 as he caught his right rear foot under the tire of the pickup and dislocated his right hip. He has had two surgeries for it and is recovering quite nicely. Steve is working with Stryker and even with limited work he coming along quite nicely.

Steve and Stryker have been enjoying themselves on the novice field throughout 2006 and 2007. With each trial they have been improving. Stryker continues to teach Steve things about herding and sheep.

Look to see these two on the Pro-novice field in 2008. They have been making great progress in their training and in learning how to drive.
